James Kent Homes, Newport House, Shrewsbury

Project Specifications

Part of the Morris portfolio, Newport House formed a property of significant historic importance within Shrewsbury. Home to Lord Newport in the 17th Century, followed by the Earl of Bradford and later in the 18th Century the Earls of Darlington, Newport House has been a seat of influence over the surrounding area over many centuries.

Located in the heart of Shrewsbury’s vibrant town centre the impressive house with its elevated vantage point, has views over the River Severn, across the town and into the surrounding countryside beyond.

Bringing the building to life

It was recognised that Newport House could offer the ultimate combination of 21st century living in a uniquely historic setting and Morris & Company were granted detailed consent to convert the building into a 7/8 bedroom house, dependent upon a preferred layout.

"A house with such an historical back story and prominent position within the town attracted widespread interest and was quickly sold"
