New apprentice joins Morris Property

We are delighted to have welcomed a new apprentice to our construction team.

Impressing the team with his potential, Tom Potts joins Morris Property with a passion for construction and a desire to learn from the best. He is the third site apprentice manager under the company’s wing, with an additional three bench joiner apprentices based at in Morris Joinery workshop in Bicton.

The site manager apprenticeship involves one day at Shrewsbury Colleges Group and four days on site per week. Throughout the course, Tom will learn health and safety practices, sustainability of projects, construction technology, construction management, planning, organisation and quality control with the end goal to be able to manage his own sites.

Tom was initially offered an apprenticeship with Morris Property whilst he was completing his Level 3 Construction course in 2019, but ended up starting an architecture course at UWE Bristol. After two years of study, he realised his heart was in construction, so approached Morris Property again to ask about apprenticeships.

Tom is now working with the experienced team on site at Oteley Road, where he will stay until his course ends. Mentored by Site Manager, Pete Allworth, and Contracts Manager, Phil Griffiths, Tom is learning on the job and applying his theoretical knowledge into practical situations.

Steve Flavell, Construction Manager at Morris Property, said “We were delighted to hear from Tom again, as he really impressed us with his work at college. We take great pride in nurturing talent and fostering an environment where individuals can grow and thrive. Our apprentices are as much a part of the team as others and we believe that they play an important role in our continued growth.”

Tom said “My first six weeks have been really interesting, and I am already developing new skills that I wouldn’t have done whilst at university. One thing I have learnt is the importance of communication with the teams on site and suppliers as it helps the site run smoother and safer. I’m looking forward to continue learning and developing responsibility.”
