Carl Jones keeps Ketley history blooming

A ‘full circle’ moment took place at Ketley Point, Telford this week as our Head of Development, Liz Lowe, presented a rose to award-winning journalist, editor, broadcaster Carl Jones.

Liz Lowe, Head of Development at Morris Property, with Carl Jones, Editor of Shropshire Business Magazine, standing at Ketley Point.

The ‘Shropshire Star’ rose is being gifted to Carl to replant as construction works accelerate for a new ALDI store and industrial unit. The handover symbolises a nod to the area’s past as development paves the way for the future.

Carl Jones spent nearly a decade working as Business Editor of the Shropshire Star and regularly sat in the newspaper’s editor’s chair at the site of the former Shropshire Star HQ on Waterloo Road, Ketley. Today, he is the editor and director of Shropshire Business Magazine, the independent glossy magazine which has been crowned Midlands Magazine of the Year since 2016.

Carl Jones said: “It’s a real honour to take on the care of this rose. It’s a wonderful gesture and a lovely link to the history of the site as it moves into its next chapter of development. I look forward to replanting it and watching it flourish.

“It’s an extra special souvenir for me, since this is the place where I first met my wife – former Shropshire Star reporter Rachel – in 1988.”

Liz Lowe, Head of Development, said: “It was a privilege to present the rose to Carl. Given his deep connection to the local community here and his previous role at Shropshire Star, we felt he was the perfect person to ensure this little piece of the site’s history is preserved and continues to thrive.”

The new development is set to bring significant investment and jobs to the Ketley area of Telford.
