Apprentice Feature | Nathan Jones #NAW2023

National Apprenticeship Week, running from 6th to the 12th February 2023, is an annual, week-long celebration of apprenticeships. We’re throwing the spotlight onto our talented apprentices who work across our Morris Property and Morris Joinery divisions, and asked them for their insights into their apprenticeship experiences.

Construction is a multi-billion pound industry that involves the underlying structure of anything, from a new build school to a industrial shed and there are lots of apprenticeship opportunities over a range of occupations.

If you are interested in an apprenticeship with Morris Property, please contact your college or [email protected] who will be able to advise you further.

Meet Nathan Jones, one of our Apprentice Site Managers.

When did you start your apprenticeship?

I started my apprenticeship on the 1st October 2020

What has Morris Property taught you as your ‘skill for life’?

Communication skills are critical to life and work. If there is one thing, Morris Property has definitely taught me the importance and effectiveness of communication. It has been key to understanding the significance of communicating with the different personas in construction, from subcontractors to clients and architectural designers.

What has been your proudest moment whilst under apprenticeship?

There have been so many proud moments during my apprenticeship, but one prominent moment would definitely be completing my SMSTS which has enabled me to look after and run sites independently, including a small restaurant fit out in my local town, which I took great pleasure in handing over to the client.

What are the benefits you’ve found being on an apprenticeship/why would you recommend it for others?

Apprenticeships are an exciting option – you get hands-on training and also the chance to put your skills into practice, all whilst earning an income and striving to become fully qualified in the position you aspire to be in.
