Apprentice Feature | Conor Roberts #NAW2023

National Apprenticeship Week is back, and we’re thrilled to be shining a spotlight on our talented apprentices that work for our Morris Property and Morris Joinery divisions once again.

Designed to celebrate the positive impacts apprentices can make on a business, this year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life’ – reflecting on how apprenticeship’s can help young people develop new skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.

If you are interested in an apprenticeship with Morris Property, please contact your college or [email protected] who will be able to advise you further.

Meet Conor Roberts, our Apprentice Site Manager currently based at Hollinswood House in Telford.

When did you start your apprenticeship?

I started my apprenticeship with Morris Property on the 30th of August 2021, after completing work experience on a residential project in late April 2021.

What has Morris Property taught you as your ‘skill for life’?

Working in the construction industry as an Apprentice Site Manager with Morris Property has provided me with many valuable skills such as; project management, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, leadership and a technical knowledge of construction process and materials. These skills are transferable and useful outside of work in various aspects of life.

What has been your proudest moment whilst under apprenticeship?

There have been lots of moments throughout my apprenticeship where I have felt proud of myself. But overall, the best moments are when I complete work to a really high standard or when I find solutions to problems and receive praise from senior management. This gives me a lot of motivation towards my work, and is when I feel most proud.

What are the benefits you’ve found being on an apprenticeship, and why would you recommend it for others?

As an apprentice, I get to work alongside knowledgeable people who mentor me, whilst gaining useful experience during the time I complete my studies. I’m able to improve my essential skills such as strengthening my communication and teamwork skills whilst they’re in practice every day at work.

I am also able to gain experience and work toward my qualification without having to take out a student loan, as these are all covered within the apprenticeship scheme and allow me to be debt free during my studies.
