Virtual School project provides career inspiration for young people

We are working with Shropshire Council’s housing company Cornovii Homes to share career insights and success stories to inspire and inform young people who access the Council’s Virtual School.

Cornovii Homes and our Property team are working on their first 33-house development site, “The Frith” in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury.

As part of this partnership, we are supporting social value commitments within the county’s communities and delivering social value. For each development site, Cornovii Homes will support one school with a unique offer which will focus on raising the aspirations, skills and insights of young people.

The bespoke offer for the Virtual School was launched earlier this week (Monday 17 May 2021) at the start of national Learning at Work Week 2021. Short video clips provide virtual insights into various careers and highlight how young people can access these career pathways.

Harpreet Rayet, Cornovii Developments Limited’s Managing Director, said:-

“Delivering social value beyond the homes we build is a key objective for Cornovii Homes. We are pleased to introduce this as our first project supporting schools and young people across the county through the Virtual School. We hope this project encourages young people to look at the many opportunities available to them within the construction sector and onto successful career pathways.”

James West, Morris Property’s Chief Operating Officer, added:-

“As a company rooted in Shropshire, we are passionate about providing opportunities and advice for young people to understand the wide variety of career options there are here in the county. From our growing property division to our nursing homes with their clear career pathways, we hope the videos inspire and reassure viewers that there’s plenty of places to grow and learn here.”

Rose Hooper, headteacher of the Virtual School, said:-

Shropshire Virtual School would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff from Cornovii Homes, Morris Property and colleagues in Shropshire Council for the time, effort and passion in delivering on this project. It is heartening to see both companies fully embracing the principles and practice of social contracting for the benefit of some of our most vulnerable young people. We look forward to using the Insight Videos with our young people and continuing to work with such supportive partners.

The videos are available on Shropshire Council’s website for anyone to view.

Alongside this offer, Cornovii Homes and Morris Property staff will be providing personalised support sessions for Virtual School pupils who want to find out more and enable them to plan and manage lifelong career journeys and aspirations.

Throughout Cornovii Homes’ social value initiative, they hope to engage more young people with the working world, and inspire and prepare them for exciting future careers.
